OUR TEAM

The team at Specialist Medical has a vision to establish a unique group of practices that bring together the expertise of teaching-hospital radiologists, outstanding service and local referrers to provide patients and the local community with a new standard of excellence in medical imaging.
SMI has assembled a team of radiologists with sub-specialty expertise and created a network between all SMI practices and Macquarie Medical Imaging at Macquarie University Hospital, in order to provide the highest quality scanning and reporting for our patients.
Our radiologists are further specialised in areas of their interest and have all undergone further training in their chosen areas of expertise. Subspecialty scanning methods and reporting by radiologist enable us to diagnose earlier and with greater accuracy.

OUR RADIOLOGISTS

Assoc. Prof. Kevin Ho-Shon
MBBS (Hons), BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD, FRANZCR, GAICD
Dr Ho-Shon graduated from Medicine from Sydney University in 1993. He simultaneously undertook a Bachelor of Science with research in Positron Emission Tomography and graduated with First Class Honours in 1994. In 1997 as a PET registrar at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital he commenced research in signal processing techniques applied to PET and completed a Masters of Science at Sydney University. He remained at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for a further five years to complete radiology training before returning to Sydney University to continue research in mathematics and obtaining a PhD in 2008. In 2003 Kevin was appointed as a Staff Specialist at RPAH where he remains as an interventional radiologist. Kevin has established several medical imaging businesses and was one of the founders of Macquarie Medical Imaging at Macquarie University Hospital. He is Head of the Discipline of Medical Imaging at the Macquarie University Health Science Centre.

Prof. John Magnussen
MBBS, PhD, FRANZCR
Professor Magnussen graduated in Medicine from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), before completing a PhD in Nuclear Medicine and Biomedical Engineering, also at UNSW. He qualified in Radiology from Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) where he remained for several years as Director of Research and Staff Specialist Radiologist. During this time, John worked both in diagnostic and interventional radiology at RPAH and at several major Private Hospitals. In 2010, he was appointed Professor of Radiology at Macquarie University and was pivotal in establishing Macquarie Medical Imaging, dedicating himself to establishing a unique standard of excellence at the University Hospital practice. He has completed advanced training in CT Coronary Angiography and has presented at numerous international meetings, in basic science and clinical research.

Dr Ken Ho
MBBS, MS, FRANZCR
Dr Ho graduated in Medicine from the University of New South Wales in 1997. He went on to complete a Masters in Surgery in 2007. He was resident in General Medicine, Surgery and Emergency Medicine at hospitals including Westmead, Sutherland and Prince of Wales before commencing Radiology fellowship training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) in 2003. Ken spent his final registrar year undertaking training in Breast Imaging at Royal North Shore Hospital. He has been a Staff Specialist Radiologist at RPAH since 2008 and in 2009 Ken was appointed Visiting Medical Officer with BreastScreen NSW.

Dr Christopher Rogan
MBBS (Hons), BSc, FRANZCR
Dr Rogan graduated in Medicine from the University of New South Wales in 2002 with First Class Honours. He was a Neurosurgery registrar for two years at Nepean Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals, respectively. In 2011, Chris qualified as a Fellow in Radiology. Subsequently, he moved to London for six months to attain a Fellowship in Interventional Radiology at the Imperial College in London and St Mary’s Hospital. He is currently a Staff Specialist at RPAH with a focus on Interventional Oncology, Angiography, Angioplasty and Stenting, Embolisation, Biopsy and Drainage, Ablation, Minimally Invasive Therapies and Endovascular procedures. He continues to expand his knowledge through publications, research, education and other academic activities.

Dr Jennifer Tan
MBBS (Hons), BSc, FRANZCR
Dr Tan graduated in Medicine from the University of NSW in 2005. She trained in Radiology at Liverpool Hospital before completing a Fellowship in Breast Imaging at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in 2013. She has since consulted in private practice and for Breastscreen. Apart from living and breathing Radiology, Jennifer’s interests lie in reading, travel, writing, snowboarding and photography.

Dr John Banh
MBBS (Hons), BSc, FRANZCR
Dr Banh graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2007. He completed his Radiology training at Concord Repatriation General Hospital before undertaking a Breast Imaging Fellowship at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he’d also previously worked as a Resident Medical Officer. In 2015, John moved to Melbourne to specialise in MRI Imaging as a Fellow at Monash Medical Centre at Monash University. As a MRI Fellow at Monash Medical Imaging, he continuously involved in teaching and mentoring medical students while excelling MRI imaging of Musculoskeletal, Neuro and Body Imaging.
He is currently a Staff Specialist Radiologist at Concord Hospital and a Partner of Specialist Medical Imaging and a member of the Medical Imaging Team at Macquarie Medical Imaging.
